Q1: KLT Customs Attributes Revenue Hike To Stakeholders Compliance, Nets N5.992B

The Kirikiri Lighter Terminal (KLT) Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has attributed the revenue hike for the first half of 2019 to a robust high level compliance by the internal and external stakeholders .

 

The command in a statement made available to DAILYFOCUS NEWS ONLINE over the weekend, generated a whooping N5,992,057,779.00 in the last six months of the year against N4,773,154,962.00 collected in 2018.

 

The Customs Area Controller,Comptroller Moronike Oladunni was quoted saying despite the challenges militating against the command ‘s operations, it was able to exceed its half first target , adding that the collection in the period under review indicated a 59.2% increase against 20.3% netted the pervious year.

 

According to her, the tremendous achievements in revenue generation recorded by the command despite the excessive gridlock caused by the bad road networks in and around the terminals can be attributed to 100% physical examination of all containers ,pointing out effective use of NICIS ii programme aided trade facilitation within the period.

 

The Customs boss noted that the alignment to various strategies implemented by officers with the cordial coexistence between both internal and external stakeholders operating at the command’s terminals.

 

Comptroller Oladunni further called on stakeholders to desist from trade malpractices and make truthful declarations in order to enjoy seamless clearance of cargo.

 

She also assured that the officers and men of KLT command would continue to create innovative ways to improve on seamless cargo clearance procedures , thus display high professionalism while performing their duties in order to contribute immensely to the economic growth and development of the country.

 

The Area Controller also commended the importers , licensed customs brokers and freight forwarders for patronising the command inspire of the challenges encountered while transporting their containers to the command ‘s facilities but urged that all the stakeholders operating within the terminal must ensure they play their part by complying with all extant laws .

 

Detailed breakdown of revenue collected in the first half of the year include:

N869,214,087.00 in January, N722,559,118.00 in February and N1,148,622,896.00 in March.

 

According to the statement, the command raked in N1,127,419,235.00 in April, N1,128,052,821.00 in May and N995,189,613.00 in June .

 

However, for 2018, the command had: N641,375,430.00 in January, N713,918,978.00 in February and N940,377,200.00 in March 2018.

 

Also in April it recorded N521,577,324.00,May had 855,986,438.00. And June 2018 recorded the highest for the first half with N1,099,918,692.00.
