TCN Launches Campaign Against Bush Burning Around Transmission Installations

 

 

 

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has taken proactive measures to safeguard its transmission infrastructure by launching a door-to-door campaign against bush burning around it’s facilities in Benin Region.

According to a statement, the initiative aims to educate local communities about the dangers of bush and waste burning, particularly during the dry season.

The campaign, led by the Department of Health, Safety & Environment and Public Affairs, also tackles the critical issue of trading and constructing buildings under and near transmission lines.

“These practices pose significant hazards to community safety and the integrity of the transmission infrastructure,” the statement added.

Meanwhile, TCN has announced a planned preventive maintenance at its Ihovbor 132/33kV Transmission Substation, scheduled for Thursday, November 21, 2024. The maintenance will commence at 9:00 am to 11 am, lasting two hours.

During this period, TCN engineers will carry out primary connection as part of the restoration process requested by BEDC on the 33kV Ramat Feeder (Feedeer 6) circuit breaker to the 33kV Bus Isolator.

The two -hour outage is to ensure a safe working space for the maintenance crew during the connection.

In a statement made available to journalists by Ndidi Mbah, General Manager, Public Affairs TCN on Thursday 21st November 2024 disclosed that “Consequently, Benin DisCo will be unable to distribute electricity to its customers on Ihovbor and Uniben 33kV feeders for the duration of the maintenance.

“TCN assures that bulk power supply will be restored immediately upon completion of the maintenance.”

However, TCN has also stated that it has restored power supply through its Port Harcourt Town Transmission Substation, on Thursday at 5:30 pm, after the lines crew repaired the cut blue phase conductor.

“Port Harcourt DisCo is expected to have picked load for offtake to its customers on Borokiri, Secretariat, UST, Rumuolumeni, Silver Bird, UTC and Amadi Junction feeders, who were affected by the incident.

“We apologise for every inconvenience the power interruption might have caused affected customers.”
