IMMIGRATION; Nigeria, Uganda Strengthen Regional Border Security In Strategic Study Visit

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has reaffirmed its commitment to fostering strategic partnerships and supporting regional initiatives that strengthen border governance and safer migration systems.

The service made this known when it received a delegation from the National Defence College (NDC) of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) in Abuja.

The visit was part of the Ugandan team’s study tour of Nigeria — aimed to deepen bilateral ties and advance regional collaboration on border security and migration management.

Led by Brig. Gen. Nangeso Kefa William (UPDF) with Col. Onoja Okwali representing the Nigerian Defence Headquarters, the delegation took part in presentations, interactive sessions, and facility tours under the theme “Comparative Strategic Approaches to National Security, Defence Transformation and Development in Emerging and Transitional States.”

Representing Comptroller General Kemi Nandap, , the DCG Visa and Residency, FU Nwanneka, stressed the value of sustained cooperation, continuous knowledge sharing, and joint capacity building to address shared threats.

Discussions focused on border security and migration management, intelligence sharing, inter‑agency coordination, and other measures to combat transnational threats.

The engagement reinforced the longstanding Nigeria–Uganda relationship and highlighted the importance of collective regional action to ensure effective migration governance, enhanced border management, and sustainable peace across Africa.
