Lagos Health District IV Begins 2025 National Immunization Plus Day

 

The Lagos Health District IV, in collaboration with the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) and key partners, has commenced the 2025 National Immunization Plus Days (NIPDs) campaign across four Local Government Areas (LGAs) and five Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) of the State.

This was contained in a statement by Michael Oputeh,bPublic Affairs Officer, Lagos State Health District IV over the weekend.

According to Dr. Abimbola Bowale, Permanent Secretary of Health District IV, the campaign aims to vaccinate all children aged 0–5 years with two drops of the oral polio vaccine.

He said “This effort is critical to maintaining Lagos State’s polio-free status and preventing any resurgence of the virus, especially after Nigeria achieved wild polio virus-free certification in August 2020.

Dr. Bowale emphasized the importance of the campaign in stopping the transmission of the circulating variant poliovirus and protecting every child under five from polio, which can cause permanent disability or death.

” Throughout the campaign, dedicated healthcare workers will visit communities in Lagos Island LG, Apapa LG, Mainland LG, Surulere LG, and LCDAs including Lagos Island East, Apapa Iganmu, Yaba, Itire-Ikate, and Coker-Aguda.

‘Vaccination teams will operate in homes, schools, worship centers, markets, and other public places to ensure every eligible child is reached.

“Parents and caregivers are urged to take advantage of this opportunity to protect their children, as immunization not only safeguards individuals but also strengthens community health”. Dr. Bowale assured that the vaccines are safe, free, and highly effective.

“In preparation for the exercise, a circular was issued to brief members of the social mobilization team on their roles and responsibilities during the immunization period,” the statement added.
