LAGFERRY BOAT EXPLOSION UPDATE : Nine Persons Hospitalized

Sequel to early morning explosion of a boat ,at the Ikorodu terminals , the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) says nine persons comprising passengers, LASWA personnel, and the Lagos State Ferry Services (LAGFERRY) staff currently receiving medical attention are showing significant improvement.

LASWA said the cause of the fire incident is still being investigated, even as agency has earlier reported that four passengers suffered minor injuries and are currently receiving medical attention.

The LASWA’s General Manager, Mr. Oluwadamilola Emmanuel, said this in a statement made available to newsmen on Thursday in Lagos.

Emmanuel said the authority would conduct thorough preliminary investigations into the cause of the incident in collaboration with LAGFERRY and other stakeholders to ensure a comprehensive assessment.

“LASWA is pleased to provide an update regarding the individuals injured during the fire outbreak on the Igbega Eko vessel at Ipakodo Ferry Terminal today..

 

The Lagos State Waterways Authority had earlier confirmed the fire incident at approximately 6:45 a.m. at the Ipakodo Ferry Terminal in Ikorodu, involving the Lagos State Ferry Services (LAGFERRY) vessel, “Igbega Eko’.

Emmanuel, confirmed this in a statement made available to our correspondent on Thursday in Lagos.

Emmanuel said the vessel was en route Victoria Island.

“Upon receiving the distress call, LASWA’s emergency response team swiftly mobilised to the scene, working in close coordination with LAGFERRY, boat operators and other first responders to manage the situation effectively.

“We are pleased to report that all passengers and crew on board were evacuated safely, though four passengers suffered minor injuries and are currently receiving medical attention,” he said.

“Safety is our utmost priority, and we are committed to implementing any necessary recommendations to enhance fire prevention measures throughout the Lagos waterways.
“LASWA assures the public that all safety protocols remain intact and ferry operations are proceeding as scheduled.

“We encourage all passengers to stay calm and adhere to safety guidelines while enjoying our waterways,” he said.
