SSASCGOC Maritime Branch Lauds Port Workers For Industrial Peace At Seaports

The Senior Staff Association of Statutory Corporations and Government-Owned Companies (SSASCGOC), Maritime Branch, led by Comrade Akinola Bodunde, who also double as the National Treasurer has lauded maritime workers and stakeholders for maintaining peace and harmony in Nigeria’s ports while commending the management of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) for its collaborative approach to port operations.
In a Democracy Day statement, the branch President said the professionalism and resilience of dockworkers, crane operators, customs agents, administrative staff of NPA and logistics personnel have kept cargo flow steady, sustained jobs, and bolstered national commerce.
The Union President credited uninterrupted port activity to the disciplined efforts of workers and the constructive engagement between labour and management.
The SSASCGOC Maritime Branch leader also praised the NPA management led by Abubakar Dantsoho for upholding safety and operational protocols and for engaging worker representatives in dialogue.
Bodunde in the statement said.”The union highlighted the role of security agencies and maritime stakeholders in preserving port stability”, saying coordinated vigilance has prevented disruptions and protected lives and property.
He further called for continued cooperation to deepen public confidence in port institutions.
Reaffirming its commitment to workers’ welfare, the SSASCGOC Maritime President called for fair wages, timely promotions, and improved staff benefits, urging the NPA management and relevant agencies to fast-track reforms that enhance workforce wellbeing.
The statement described investment in staff welfare as investment in the country’s economic resilience.
The union boss also emphasized the importance of youth training and skills development for the future of the maritime sector and pledged support for apprenticeship and mentorship initiatives that prepare young Nigerians for technical and managerial roles.
Acknowledging the oversight role of civil society, media, and trade unions, the SSASCGOC Maritime Branch said these groups remain vital in defending democratic norms and ensuring institutional responsiveness.
The President used the Democracy Day to call on the President Bola Tinubu to be more committed to worhers plight in the present economic situation and also improve the security of citizens of Nigeria. He urge the maritime stakeholders to renew their commitment to peace, productivity, and patriotic service, stressing that cooperation among workers, managers, and policymakers is essential to keeping harbours open and the economy moving.
Comrade Akinola Bodunde concluded by extending Democracy Day wishes to all Nigerians and reaffirming the branch’s readiness to partner with management, government, and citizens to safeguard democratic gains and promote inclusive development.
