To say Nigeria is sitting on many fault lines is an understatement. Every passing day we tend to get more divided despite many calls to mend fences, and get along as a truly united country. But then, even the much talked about ‘unity’ is said to have been an old scam meant to hold a particular part of the country, hostage.
The country is wrapped in secrecy so much that our current struggles as a nation, feels justifiable. But truth they say, no matter how long it’s buried, will surely come out. And that’s exactly what Nigeria is current experiencing.
Side talks aside, our old folks are finally beginning to spill the beans albeit subtly. We’ve had the likes of Obasanjo, Babangida and Gowon speak on national issues more often than usual, but the latest to send ripples across the social media space is General Theophilus Danjuma who is heavily part of Nigeria’s chaotic history especially during the military era.
The former defense minister while speaking on Thursday, at a book presentation marking the 70th anniversary of the Nigerian Tribune, said Nigerians are in a ‘big hole as a nation,’ and that President Muhammadu Buhari is not here to rule the country, but rather, ‘dominate us’.
Danjuma also said, nobody in the country would sleep, if he should reveal startling secrets about what is happening in Nigeria. This particular statement by the retired General, caught the attention of many Nigerians, and Senator Shehu Sani wants to know what’s kept in the wraps by the former military General.
Sani in a reaction on Twitter, called on Danjuma to ‘spill the ‘ordourous, putrid Beans’ and let the country burn if it may, rather than keeping secrets while the country suffers.
He said, “Dear Baba Gen TY,spill the ordourous, putrid Beans so that the snoring slumberland ‘will be awakened’ by the insomnia of its truth and of its reality.”
Meanwhile, Danjuma challenged the Southwest to not allow themselves be cowed by the Buhari administration. He said: “In Yorubaland, everybody seems to have lost their voice, scared. And people appear not to care about what is happening. If I tell you what I know that is happening in Nigeria today, you will no longer sleep.
“So, Chief Ayo Adebanjo’s warning and advice is very timely. If you want details, I will give it to you privately.”
