Sen. Akume Remains Secretary To Government Of The Federation Amid Removal Rumours

The Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) has officially dismissed rumors circulating online and in some media outlets about the alleged removal of Senator George Akume, CON, from his position as SGF by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.

In a press statement released today, Segun Imohiosen Director, Information & Public Relations, Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation on Sunday,, June 29, 2025, the office described the reports as “entirely false, misleading, and lacking any basis in fact.”

The statement emphasized that President Tinubu has no intention of removing Sen. Akume, who continues to hold the office with the full confidence of the President.

The statement further condemned the rumors as fabrications by mischief-makers aiming to disinform the public. It urged media organizations, digital platforms, and the general public to verify information before dissemination to avoid undermining public trust and institutional integrity.

President Tinubu remains confident in Sen. Akume’s ability to execute his statutory duties, particularly in formulating and implementing policies under the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

The Office also referenced a previous statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Strategy, Chief Bayo Onanuga, reaffirming the official position that Senator Dr. George Akume, CON, remains the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
