Lagos State Health District IV, Surulere LG Launch Green Initiative To Mark World Tree Planting Day

In observance of World Tree Planting Day on July 14, Lagos State Health District IV and Surulere Local Government launched a Green Initiative at Shitta Nursery and Primary School, Surulere.

The event was led by the Permanent Secretary of Lagos State Health District IV, Dr. Abimbola Bowale, and the Executive Chairman of Surulere Local Government, represented by Vice Chairman Hon. Dosunmu Adewale.

A statement issued Tuesday by Oputeh Michael, Public Affairs Officer for Lagos State Health District IV, said the tree-planting activity aims to transform open spaces through strategic landscaping, increased tree cover, and broader beautification efforts.

The programme, he said was part of Surulere Local Government’s commitment to environmental sustainability, climate resilience, and improving pupils’ quality of life.

Speaking at the ceremony, Hon. Dosunmu Adewale emphasized Surulere’s role as a gateway to Nigeria’s economy and stressed the need to pair development with environmental protection.

He said the initiative will help restore green cover, reduce flooding, and create cleaner, healthier community spaces.

Chairman Hon. Bamidele Yusuf urged stakeholders to support the programme, noting that its benefits will extend to schools, residents, businesses, and future generations, and will help make Surulere a greener, more resilient community.
