Nigeria Customs Boss , CGC- Adeniyi Commissions New Facilities At Seme Area Command

Seme, Nigeria — May 19, 2025 — The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) marked a significant milestone on Monday with the commissioning of the newly renovated Senior Officers’ Mess, Gym House, and the state-of-the-art Customs Officers’ Wives Association (COWA) Office Complex at the Seme Area Command. The event was graced by the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, who officially commissioned the facilities.

In his welcome address, Comptroller Dr. Ben Oramalugo, PhD, FCIA, FNIM, Customs Area Controller of Seme Area Command, expressed immense joy and gratitude for the occasion, highlighting the importance of these developments in enhancing the welfare and morale of officers and their families. He described the renovated Officers’ Mess as a symbol of the command’s commitment to providing a conducive environment for relaxation, camaraderie, and professional bonding among personnel.

The new COWA Office Complex was recognized as a testament to the invaluable contributions of the Customs Officers’ Wives Association in supporting officers, fostering community development, and promoting family welfare within the command. Dr. Oramalugo praised the collective effort that brought these projects to fruition and commended the officers for their dedication to duty, which has significantly contributed to the command’s success.

He said from January to April 2025, the Seme Area Command generated over N2.8 billion in revenue and processed more than 184,000 metric tonnes of export goods valued at over N36 billion. The command’s anti-smuggling efforts have also led to numerous arrests and seizures with a duty-paid value exceeding N800 million, underscoring its commitment to operational excellence and zero tolerance for smuggling.

Dr. Oramalugo extended heartfelt appreciation to COWA members for their community engagement and empowerment initiatives, emphasizing that the new office complex will enhance their capacity to impact positively the border community. He also acknowledged the collaborative efforts of sister security agencies in maintaining border security and peace.

The Comptroller General’s visionary leadership was lauded for driving modernization and transformation within the Nigeria Customs Service. His focus on collaboration, innovation, and officer welfare was credited with inspiring the command’s achievements and the commissioning of these new facilities.
