Fano Group Lauds CGC Adeniyi On Presidential Tenure Extension, Re‑election As WCO Chair

Fano Shipping Agencies Limited, a subsidiary of Fano Group, has congratulated Comptroller General of Customs Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, PhD, MFR, psc+, following President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s six‑month extension of his tenure.

In a letter personally signed by Fano Group Chairman HRH Eze Amb. Damian Emeka Obianigwe, KSM, JP, and made available to journalists, Eze Obianigwe commended President Tinubu’s decision and described the CGC as a thoroughbred officer, astute administrator and organizational genius.

Eze Obianigwe — the traditional ruler (Ezeoha, Obi of Isi Ihitteowerri Autonomous Community, Orlu, Imo State) and President General of the Association of Igbo Maritime Practitioners in Nigeria (ASIMPIN) — also felicitated Adeniyi on his recent re‑election as Chair of the World Customs Organization (WCO) Council during the 147th and 148th Council Sessions in Brussels, Belgium.

“The CGC’s re‑election as WCO Chair is clear attestation to his leadership and organizational ingenuity,” Eze Obianigwe said. “His innovative ideas and initiatives have transformed the Nigerian Customs Service and fostered international collaboration that is promoting global trade.”

He added that Adeniyi’s leadership has driven innovations that significantly enhanced revenue generation, border security, facilitation of legitimate trade and overall operational efficiency at the Nigeria Customs Service.

Describing the WCO re‑election as a milestone, Eze Obianigwe noted the rapid transformation of the Service under the CGC, saying Nigeria’s influence in global customs administration has grown markedly in a short time.

“It is an empirical fact that what we have today as Nigeria Customs Service is a far departure from what was obtainable four years ago,” he said. “The Service has been transformed and modernized under the formidable leadership of the CGC and his team.”

Eze Obianigwe also highlighted operational improvements such as remote document processing and reduced physical contact, and praised the successful roll‑out of the Indigenous Unified Customs Management System (UCMS), known as B’Odogwu, which has effectively replaced NCIS II.
He concluded the letter by praying for continued wisdom and professional fortitude for the CGC to “finish strong.”
