NDLEA Confirms Eunice Ortom As WADA Ambassador , Urges Students To Shun Drug Abuse

Wife of the Benue state Governor and founder Eunice Spring of Life Foundation Dr. Eunice Ortom has tasked students to stay off drugs and substance abuse saying there was nothing beneficial in using or peddling drugs and substances.

 

Mrs. Ortom gave the charge on Monday 11th July 2022 at the War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) Campaign for Secondary Schools organized by Eunice Spring of Life Foundation in collaboration with the Benue state command of Nigerian Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA at Mt. St. Gabriels secondary school, Makurdi.

She stressed that the choice of secondary school students for the sensitization program was a conscious one considering that they were very vulnerable at that age and so all hands must be on deck to keep them off drugs.

While appreciating the NDLEA’s partnership with ESLF in the fight against drug abuse, the Governor’s wife asserted that the rate of drug use in the country was alarming hence the declaration of a War against it by President Muhammad Buhari.

 

In her new role as the WADA Ambassador, Dr. Eunice Ortom called on all stakeholders in the state to join in the fight against Drug Abuse saying it was a fight to protect the lives and destinies of the younger generation and by extension, the future of the state.

In his Remarks, the Executive Governor of Benue State Dr. Samuel Ortom applauded the interventions of ESLF in the state in various areas especially the Health sector.

 

The Governor assured that his administration was committed to the fight against Drug Abuse and other vices and so is always open for productive collaborations that will impact the lives of Benue people.

 

He was represented at the event by the Commissioner for Health and Human Services Dr. Joseph Ngbea.

 

Other Speakers at the event including the state commander  of NDLEA Esther Lami  Musa, the honorable commissioner for women affairs Mrs. Tabitha Girgi and other technical facilitators enlightened the students on the ills of drug use, preventive methods, management and possible treatments.

Crux of the event was the investiture of the Benue state First Lady Dr. Eunice Ortom as the state Ambassador for WADA by the Benue NDLEA state commander.
