Gov Okpebholo Raises Edo Workers’ Minimum Wage to N75,000

 

Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has announced an increase in the minimum wage for state workers from N70,000 to N75,000.

 

According to a statement  Signed by Fred Itua, Chief Press Secretary to the Edo State Governor on Thursday, 01 May, 2025,

the announcement was made during his May Day address at Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City.

 

Governor Okpebholo praised the dedication of Edo workers and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving their welfare. He highlighted several initiatives, including the conversion of over 1,000 casual workers to permanent staff, the recruitment of 500 new teachers, and ongoing efforts to regularize the employment status of more than 3,000 teachers.

 

 

“Just within six months in office, you have done excellently well for Edo State for Edo State workers as your performance is beyond our expectations as workers.

 

“We thank the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Ahmed Bola Tinubu for the support given to Edo State Government as the first flyover is under construction while a second one has been approved. Federal roads across the State are also getting the needed attention they deserve.”

Additionally, the state has hired 450 clinical and non-clinical hospital staff and regularized 126 contract workers at the Edo State Specialist Hospital.

 

The governor also noted that outstanding salary arrears for polytechnic staff have been cleared, and health insurance coverage has been extended to retirees. He emphasized the government’s dedication to timely payment of salaries and pensions, continuous recruitment to enhance service delivery, and ensuring fair treatment for all workers.

 

Acting chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Edo State chapter, Comrade Bernard Egwekhide, commended Governor Okpebholo for his policies aimed at alleviating the hardship faced by workers and pensioners. He described the administration’s achievements within six months as exceeding expectations.

 

Dignitaries at the event include the Deputy Governor, Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Secretary to the State Government, and other key officials.
