FRSC Champions Smart National Transport Databank
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has reaffirmed its commitment to a safer, smarter and digitally driven transport system after the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, mni, accompanied the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajuddeen, on an official visit to Cairo, Egypt, to advance the Smart National Transport Databank Project.
The visit followed the June 15, 2026 Memorandum of Understanding between the Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT) and Asia Arab Investment (AAI) in Abuja, and marked a move from agreement to implementation.
It underlined the federal government’s determination, and that of its agencies, to build an integrated, technology-led transport management system to improve mobility, road safety administration and national development.

Abbas Tajuddeen and included Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed; Dr. Bayero Salih Farah, Director General/Chief Executive of NITT; Engr. Olufunso Olusesan Adebiyi, Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Transportation; and other senior officials.
For the FRSC, the Smart National Transport Databank is a landmark initiative aligned with the Corps’ strategy to deploy technology and intelligence to save lives.
The project aims to create a comprehensive national transport database that delivers reliable, real-time data for transport planning, infrastructure development, regulatory oversight, enforcement operations, crash analysis and evidence-based policymaking.
Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed described the databank as a transformative national asset that will strengthen the Corps’ operational capacity by improving crash prediction, traffic management, strategic deployment of personnel and resources, compliance monitoring and overall service delivery.
He said the initiative represents the future of transport governance, driven by accurate data, innovation and institutional collaboration.
A major outcome of the Cairo engagement was the unveiling of proposed Driver Training and Development Centres to be established across Nigeria by ARCORP Egypt in partnership with FRSC and NITT under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP).
The centres are expected to raise driver education standards, professionalise driving, build capacity and contribute to a reduction in road traffic crashes nationwide.
The Speaker pledged the National Assembly’s readiness to provide legislative support needed for the project’s success, highlighting its potential to advance Nigeria’s economic growth, digital transformation and infrastructure development.
Beyond formal agreements, the visit strengthened international partnerships and Nigeria’s resolve to deploy cutting-edge technologies to modernise the transport sector. Stakeholders used the platform to reaffirm their collective commitment to delivering the Smart National Transport Databank as envisioned.
