Ikorodu Ferry Terminal Reopens January 19 After Water Hyacinth Closure
The Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) has announced the reopening of Ikorodu Ferry Terminal for waterway transport operations, effective Monday, January 19, 2026.
Recall that the terminal was forced to close on Monday, October 20, 2025, amid severe navigational hazards from a massive water hyacinth infestation that choked the waterway, posing risks to vessels and passengers.

According to a statement on Friday, LASWA explained that during the roughly three-month shutdown, all services were redirected to nearby Ibeshe Terminal and Offin Jetty to maintain commuter access.
“Following intensive clearance efforts, comprehensive safety assessments, and consultations with the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), the waterway is now fully navigable and safe.
“Operators are directed to resume normal schedules immediately, with strict adherence to all safety and operational protocols.LASWA reassures the public of its commitment to safe, reliable water transport across Lagos waterways.”the statement added .
