Shippers Council’s Complaints Unit Under Saka Assures Stakeholders Of Faster Dispute Resolution

The Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) has appointed Dr. (Mrs.) Obiageli Juliana Saka as Head of the Complaints Unit following a formal handover from the retiring unit chief, Dr. Bashir Ambi at a ceremony on Friday, June 26, 2026.
Saka who is the Deputy President, Chartered Institute of Logistics Transport, CILT Nigeria reaffirmed her commitment to work collectively other staff of the unit and to resolve critical dispute between shippers, agents and shipping lines.
Dr. Saka expressed committed to strengthening compliance within the unit, tightening case-management processes, and fast-tracking dispute resolution to prevent escalation.
She emphasized using complaint outcomes as institutional feedback to improve service delivery across ports and shipping operations
She said “I am honoured to take up the role of Head of the Complaints Unit,” Dr. Saka said. “I look forward to working with everyone to make the NSC Complaints Unit the focal point for resolving complaints in the port and shipping industry.
“We will ensure that complaints are resolved faster, reduce escalations and use every case as feedback to improve service delivery in the port and shipping sector.”
Earlier In his valedictory remarks, Dr. Ambi reflected on a two-year tenure that delivered measurable fiscal benefits for the nation.
Since June 11, 2024, he said, the Complaints Unit’s interventions helped save an estimated ₦4.8 billion for the Nigerian economy.
He described the handover as passing on “a clean slate and a robust foundation,” and urged staff to give the new head their full support.
The transition was presented on behalf of the Executive Secretary and CEO, Dr. Akutah Pius Ukeyima, Esq., MON, FCILT, and included comprehensive operational documents to secure continuity.
The handover package comprises detailed operational appendices and performance metrics (since Q3 2024), the unit’s KPIs and duty schedules, and a registry of files, asset inventories, and ongoing assignments.
