Lagos State Health District IV , Nigerian Stock Exchange Launch “BLOOM” Nutrition Project 

The Nigerian Stock Exchange Group, in partnership with Health Emergency Initiative, has officially flagged off the “Bringing Life to Our Overlooked Minors” (BLOOM) nutrition intervention programme in Lagos State Health District IV.

According to a statement by Oputeh Michael Public Affairs Officer, Lagos State Health District IV on Friday, the project aims to tackle malnutrition among children under five by focusing on improving linear growth rather than just weight gain.

At the launch event, Dr. Oludolapo Sotunde, Director of Medical Services and Disease Control representing the Permanent Secretary of Lagos State Health District IV, emphasized the critical importance of nutrition in the first five years of life.

“A well-nourished child is the foundation of a healthy and prosperous society,” she said, highlighting how poor nutrition during these formative years adversely affects brain, body, and immune system development, with lifelong consequences.”

Adebayo Falade, Head of the Nigerian Stock Exchange Group, noted that challenges such as poor appetite, nutritional deficiencies, frequent illness, and individual growth variations can impede proper weight gain in children. These insights have driven the collaboration between the Nigerian Stock Exchange and Health Emergency Initiative to launch BLOOM, which will be implemented across all Lagos State health districts.

The programme focuses on regular growth monitoring, encouraging breastfeeding up to two years, delivering health education to mothers and caregivers, and promoting the use of locally available foods to prepare nutrient-rich complementary meals.

The flag-off ceremony was attended by dignitaries including the Permanent Secretary of Lagos State Health District V, representatives from the Lagos State Ministry of Health, the Chairman of Yaba Local Council Development Area, and other health sector leaders.
