Day Of The Seafarer 2026 Focuses On Safety, Mental Health , Danger In Shipping
The International Maritime Organization (IMO) on Monday , launched its 2026 Day of the Seafarer campaign, focusing on the risks, pressures and hardships faced by seafarers — particularly those operating in high‑risk and conflict‑affected areas.
The campaign, built around the line “Carrying world trade. Carrying the risks,” underscores the central but often unseen role seafarers play in sustaining global trade.
IMO said the campaign aims to both recognize seafarers’ vital contribution to the global economy and draw attention to the dangers and sacrifices behind that work.
According to a statement, Organizers are urging seafarers, shipping companies, governments, unions, NGOs, international organizations and maritime educators to contribute by sharing firsthand accounts, policy actions, welfare efforts and research that highlight safety, wellbeing and mental‑health support for maritime personnel.
The hashtag for the campaign is #DayoftheSeafarer. IMO has published a digital board with downloadable resources for stakeholders to use in their outreach.
The Day of the Seafarer, observed on 25 June, was established by a 2010 resolution adopted at the Manila conference that updated the STCW Convention.
The observance recognizes seafarers’ contribution to international seaborne trade and is recognized by the United Nations.
