FG Approves Additional Courses For Stars Maritime Academy,

Foremost privately owned marine training institute ,Stars Maritime Academy (SMA) has obtained approval from the Federal Government of Nigeria to run additional courses.

The Federal Government, through the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) gave the approval for the Ogun State based institution to commence courses in Computer Science and Business Administration and Management respectively.

NBTE also reiterated that a stream of 60 and 80 students respectively, are to be admitted by the Academy to run the new courses for the meantime, with award of National Diploma (ND) certificates.

In a letter by NBTE to the Rector of the Academy and a copy made available to DAILYFOCUS NIGERIA , stated that the approved programmes will be the due for initial accreditation when the first sets of students are in their final year of study..

The letter signed by Director, Vocational , Technical and Skills Development NBTE, Engr. S.M Yusuf noted that it is the responsibility of the institution to invite the board to carry out initial accreditation exercise when due adding that failure to do so within the specified period will disqualify it from further admission of students into the programmes.

DAILY FOCUS NIGERIA, also reports that NBTE has informed the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and Industrial Training Fund (ITF) on the approval of the additional courses for Stars Maritime Academy.

Speaking on the approval of more courses for the specialised maritime school, Rector ,SMA , Dr. Reuben Ovai stated that the approval by NBTE was against the backdrop of the facilities domiciled in the school.

The Rector confirmed that JAMB candidates are already selecting Stars Maritime Academy as their first choice of institution due to its peculiarities and facilities, stressing that the specialised school has come to stay as part of measures to provide academic service for the teeming youths yearning for marine studies.

This , Ovai added, would create employment opportunities for lecturers and indirect jobs, saying that all hands are on deck to engage more staff in furtherance to engage students academically,

According to him, Stars Maritime Academy has continued to make progress in terms of students admission noting that “the Academy has impacted into the lives of so many students who are doing wonders all over the world in their various endeavour.

“We don’t need to blow our trumpets because our ex students are testimonies in their place of work.”, Ovai maintained.

He added that “Our students are doing excellently in the seafaring profession and we are happy about such stories out there.. We will continue to do our best for academic excellence for our students.”
