The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has pledged to reinvigorate the tempo of business in Aba, Abia state, so that its market and other commercial points will continue to serve the business interests of the South-East region.
In addition, the presidential candidate also promised to provide more tertiary institutions in the state to augment the low presence of such federal institutions there.
According to the former Vice President, the state’s “clamour for the development of a seaport at Azumini, Ukwa East Local Government to boost trade will also receive serious consideration under my Presidency.
“I am not unaware of the “imperative to revive the lost glory of Aba market, which by now should have been the Dubai of Africa, if only there were good policies to guide the process of growth.
“We will, therefore, work hard to attract direct foreign investment by providing tangible incentives to investors; while strengthening credit guarantee initiatives; in order to achieve lowest corporate income tax as well as lower transaction costs to help emerging companies,” Alhaji Atiku said.
On the provision of more varsities, the presidential candidate said: “I notice that the Federal University of Agriculture, Umudike is the only Federal tertiary institution in Abia State. I think you deserve more. As President I will give serious consideration to establishing more Federal institutions in Abia State.”
Turning to infrastructure, the ex-Vice President who said he knows the condition of Ohafia / Arochukwu road and the Umuahia / Ohafia /Aba/Ikot Ekpene road, gave his commitment to making them motorable. “These roads are death traps. As President, who wants to unify the country, I intend to rehabilitate all major roads to facilitate national unity and trade,” he noted.
He also pledged to provide adequate security to improve the socio-economic condition of the people in Abia State, source $10 billion to empower the most vulnerable across the country and convince the incoming State Government to declare a state of emergency on basic education in the State.
In his remarks, the Director General of the Atiku/Okowa presidential campaign organization, Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto state, who appreciated the campaign slogan adopted by the Abia state wing of the PDP, commended the state Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu for being “democratic as he has been.”
He expressed joy that the party is one family working for its collective victory, assuring that “whatever assurance Atiku Abubakar gives you today, take it to the bank, because he is a man of his words and he’s prepared to reunify Nigeria; and recover it, for it to be repositioned for growth and development.
