PTT On Apapa Gridlock Still Operating Along Port Corridors

The Presidential Taskforce Team (PTT) for Apapa traffic are yet to vacate the port corridors despite the federal government recent disbandment.

Stakeholders lamented that their continuous presence along the port corridors should be addressed in a bid to pave way for the new steering committee set up by the federal government.

 

 

 

 

Recall that the Federal Government had disbanded the Presidential Task Force on Apapa Gridlock headed by a former Lagos State Commissioner for Transport, Kayode Opeifa, as part of efforts to find a solution to the perennial gridlock on the access road leading to the Tin-Can Island Port Complex.

 

 

 

 

Similarly, the Minister of Transportation,  Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, recently deployed  200 security personnel to Apapa and Tin-Can Ports to clear the gridlock on the route and enforce compliance on truck not to park on the road.

 

 

He, set up Steering Committee headed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Magdalene Ajani, to seat monthly until the challenges are overcome.

 

Other members of the committee would be from the Nigerian Ports Authourity, Nigerian Shippers Council,  MWUN, Road Safety and Lagos State government.

 

 

But findings conducted by DAILY FOCUS NIGERIA last Wednesday , revealed that the presence of the Comrade Kayode Opeifa were still intact along the ports corridor despite the new committee set up by the Minister.

 

Insider sources confirmed to our correspondent that the PTT officials had continuously spend hours along the port corridors of Wharf Road ,Marine bridge and Liverpool roundabout.

 

They confirmed to our correspondent that the PTT were strategically positioned controlling traffic.

 

One of the source with name withheld stressed that drivers of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council attached to PTT have been withdrawn but maintained that logistics was not an issue for them to carry out the illegal operations along the ports corridor.

 

The PTT officials were spotted at Ijora near SIFAX bonded terminal , Area B axis and Danlami pack , all linking the Apapa Port.
