CUSTOMS : Tin Can Command Revenue Rises , As New Area Controller Pledges Stronger Media Collaboration

The Nigeria Customs Service, Tin can Island Port Command on Wednesday , announced continued gains in revenue generation as newly deployed Area Controller, Comptroller. Joe Anani, used his maiden press engagement to pledge closer collaboration with the media and outline plans to sustain and grow the Command’s financial performance.
The Comptroller announced a whopping N111.2 billion revenue collection in May 2026.
Speaking at the port command during his first media’ engagement, Compt. Anani credited the Command’s improved revenue trajectory to enhanced compliance, operational efficiency and the dedication of customs officers.
He said the administration will consolidate these gains and aim to surpass the figures recorded under the previous leadership.
“The Command is currently performing commendably in the area of revenue generation,” Compt. Anani told reporters. “This positive trajectory reflects improved compliance levels and enhanced operational efficiency. We intend to consolidate on these gains and strive to surpass previous achievements.”
Compt. Anani said strengthening systems and adopting technology-driven solutions remain central to the Command’s revenue strategy. He described the ongoing modernization drive of the Nigeria Customs Service as a key enabler for trade facilitation and more efficient revenue collection at the port.
He also announced a deliberate communication policy to keep the media fully informed about policies, operations, reforms and achievements, adding that timely and accurate information flow will support public understanding and compliance—components he linked directly to revenue performance.
To build capacity and deepen understanding of customs operations, the Area Controller said the Command will roll out structured training, sensitization workshops and capacity-building programmes for journalists. He emphasized that a well-informed press corps helps reduce misinformation and supports the Command’s revenue and enforcement objectives.
Compt. Anani pledged strict adherence to the Nigeria Customs Service Act 2023, saying compliance with laws and regulations will underpin the Command’s operations and revenue collection. He also urged journalists to maintain high standards of professionalism in their reporting to safeguard public trust.
He thanked Comptroller-General of Customs Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, PhD, for his appointment and reiterated the Command’s openness to constructive engagement with stakeholders to further national growth, trade facilitation and revenue generation.
The Command’s Public Relations Unit will lead media relations and ensure continuous access to updates, the Area Controller said, promising that press matters will receive priority attention to strengthen the partnership between the port and the media.
