NSiB , LASWA Agree Strategic Partnership To Boost Lagos Waterways Safety
The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) and Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) has agreed to work closely towards ensuring safe waterways activities.
Both agencies made this known when NSIB paid a courtesy visit to the LASWA to discuss a strategic collaboration aimed at strengthening safety standards, incident investigation capacity, and operational efficiency across Lagos waterways.
The NSIB delegation was received at LASWA headquarters, where both agencies held constructive talks on enhancing safety oversight, sharing information, building institutional capacity, and developing joint frameworks for accident prevention and response in the inland waterways sector.
Talks identified several potential areas of collaboration, including safety data exchange, joint awareness campaigns, training programmes, incident reporting systems, emergency response coordination, and technical support for accident investigations and safety management systems.
Both organisations committed to maintaining ongoing engagements and implementing practical initiatives to improve safety outcomes for operators, passengers, and all users of Lagos waterways.
Oluwadamilola Emmanuel, LASWA General Manager and Special Adviser to the Governor on Blue Economy, welcomed the visitors and stressed the importance of inter-agency cooperation to advance Lagos State’s commitment to safe, efficient, and sustainable water transport.
He noted the vital role waterways play in the state’s transport network and the need for coordinated action to safeguard passengers and operators.
Leading the NSIB team, Director General Captain Alex Badeh reiterated the Bureau’s mandate to promote transportation safety through independent investigations and evidence-based recommendations.
He said partnership with LASWA would enhance the identification of safety risks, prevent future incidents, and strengthen safety culture across the waterways.
