Stakeholders Pass Vote Of Confidence On “Comrade Adeyanju ” , Laud Sterling Performances

Following the industrial peace and harmony in port operations for about three and half years under his leadership, stakeholders in the maritime industry have passed a vote of confidence on the President General of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN), Comrade Adewale Adeyanju , urging him to re-contest the top spot position.

This is coming barely five months to the expiration of Comrade Adeyanju first term in office as President General of the union.

Though the incumbent PG has not indicated any form of interest for a second term, but stakeholders suggested to our correspondent recently that the achievements recorded under his watch deserved another four years run.

The stakeholders comprising stevedoring operators, seafarers’ , truck operators etc , endorsed his sterling performances , even as they reiterated their support for the foremost labour leader.

According to the Managing Director, Micura Service Limited, Chief Michael Ubogu, the incumbent MWUN boss has demonstrated high level professionalism in port operation.

Ubogu maintained that the peace and tranquility in existence in modern day port operations could be attributed to the current leadership of the union ably led by Comrade Adeyanju.

 

He also described the labour leader as a detribalised individual who seeks please in ensuring equity, fairness and balance in his day to day administrative works.

“First and foremost, he has a right to re-contest as an individual for a second term depending on his constituency and if they feel he has done well .

“He has very legal right to contest ; then coming back to me as a stakeholder, I think he is someone who is highly de-tribalised , with a spirit of forgiveness and these two qualities alone is enough for a second term.

“There is a peaceful atmosphere in port operations in the last four years and he has been able to opt for peaceful negotiation and stability in the port.

 

 

 

Ubogu stressed that the union boss was able to add value to modern day dockworker adding that leadership should be a continues process.

“Truly, I don’t know where to start from but Comrade Adeyanju has transformed the union to enviable height and I think a yes yes for him to come back as president general of union.

Asked about some of the achievements recorded by union boss , the Chief Executive Officer of the Stevedoring firm stated that” Workers welfare in the lives of an average dockworkers have been addressed and that is a plus.

“What about the transformation of the national secretariat, what the peace alone that coexist in the ports nationwide. The list is endless”,he highlighted.

On his part, Secretary General, Nigeria Merchant Navy Officers and Water Transport Senior Staff Association, Comrade John Okpono Aleakhue described the incumbent MWUN boss as a core professional who deserved an automatic second tenure.

Aleakhue stated that the MWUN under his watch had a robust working relationships in addressing issues bothering on labour matter in the last four years.

Aleakhue reiterated that Comrade Adeyanju engagement with stakeholders had been cordial in the last three and half years adding that “Next level or second term for him is a yes. He deserve to be re elected no doubt.

A cross section truck owners also appealed to the unionist to re-contest for the most enviable position .
