PTML Mile 2 Off-Dock Terminal Spans 15 Hectares, Handles 300,000 Vehicles Annually – Management

Ports & Terminal Multiservices Limited (PTML) has disclosed that its off-dock facility at Mile 2 in Lagos occupies 15 hectares (37 acres) and has an annual capacity of over 300,000 vehicles.

Located 4 nautical miles from Tin Can Island, the Mile 2 Off-Dock Terminal serves as a natural extension of PTML beyond the port boundaries. It is served by environmentally friendly barges that transfer cargo from the PTML port area to this facility.

With Customs and other government authorities on site, importers can process all cargo clearance formalities directly, avoiding the congested port area.

The terminal operator also revealed that it handles over 1 million tons of containerized, Roll-on/Roll-off (RoRo), and project cargo every year.

The port concessionaire further stated that barging activities have effectively transferred vehicles from the mother port to the PTML off-dock terminal for onward service delivery.

Speaking in Lagos on Wednesday during a courtesy visit by the board and management of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC), PTML General Manager Babatunde Keshinro noted that the facility has helped decongest the mother port at Tin Can Island.

In response to questions from board members led by Shehu Shema, he reiterated that the Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) agreement remains in effect. He added that Grimaldi, a RoRo carrier, has been delivering cargo since PTML began operations in 2008.

He also stressed the need for regulators, government, and investors to collaborate in promoting the marine and blue economy ecosystem.
