The Committee for the Defence of Human Rights,( CDHR) on Tuesday advised President Muhammadu Buhari to obey Court orders and release Mr. Omoyele Sowore who has been granted bail by a Federal High Court.
The CDHR made the call during a peaceful rally protesting against bad governance in Warri.
Speaking with journalists, the CDHR Chairman, Comrade(Dr.) Prince Kehinde-Taiga the disobedience to Court orders is against the rule of law and the judiciary.
“We call on President Muhammadu Buhari to respect the law of this Country. At 59, the road is bad. They should be fixed. From Warri to Benin, the road is very bad.
“He should fulfill his campaign promises to Nigerians. Our health institutions should be put in good shape. This is the constitutional right of every citizens.”
On his part, CDHR Assistant Secretary, Comrade Israel Joe said,”The detention of Sowore that has been granted bail by the Federal High Court, we are calling on the President to immediately heed to the Judiciary.
“This is because there is a clear cut separation of power between the Executive and the Judiciary and even with the Legislature.
” So, we are calling on the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria @59, that we must respect the rights of our citizens.
“We must understand the fact that police are there to protect us. They’re not there to kill us. We must respect the section of the constitution that empowers us that our phones are our private properties.
” Nigeria police should not invade our phones. The military is not there to checkmate the excesses of the society. They should respect their boundary.
“That’s why we are coming together to @59, to say No to bad governance. Our roads should be fixed. Even estimated bill by BEDC, even if their contract will end by December, they must ensure that our light is put in place. There’s no nation that grows without power. Even communities don’t have lights.”
Joe said the people of Nigeria has not really celebrated 59years of development all strides in the “social political strata” of the Country.
While noting that a fifty nine year old would not be pampered, Joe said rally was organized to consolidate the efforts of activists across the Country.
A member of the CDHR, Rev.(Mrs.) Gladys Olumuyiwa gave her support to the rally against bad governance in the Country.
The cleric said,”The upcoming youths, the leaders I’d tomorrow, what we are calling for them does not make sense to them.
“If you tell a man not eat beans, let them not find beans in your hands. What we are seeing today in Nigeria is heartbreaking.
” What the people at the grassroots are seeing with the leaders, they’ve started practicing it. That even our leaders at home, in the villages, they’re oppressive. They oppress so hard that the common man has no place. Nowhere to go.
“Are you talking of bad roads? Do they have roads at all? People who are even farmers, they can’t farm anymore.
” My community now, they have the greatest number of HIV/AIDS patient. Nobody is saying anything.
“Politicians without Christ, they’re full if crisis. They’re not helping anybody. What we are saying is that, let us go back to where we came from. It is better than where are now and even where we are going, we have no hope.
” We are praying God!!! He has given us everything but man has spoilt all. Let them go back. Have the love of one another. There’s no love in the Nigeria again ooo.
“If we go back to where we to where we were before, when I was growing up, every woman is a mother to a child. They can correct a child but now, they’re oppressive. Oppression is so much that nobody has anything to say anymore.
” You talk to them, they will bullet you. They can even buy your child to kill you. So, what we are saying is that oppression itself is a crime and every oppressor is a criminal.
“So, let us go back to our grassroots. Let us fight corruption from there. But what They’re showing them at the top is nothing to write home about.
” I want to appeal, EFCC or whatever, let them be patient with communities.
