Maritime Workers Union Initiates Truce Talks with Melsmore Marine To Resolve Welfare Dispute

The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN), under the leadership of Comrade Francis Bunu Abi, has commenced truce talks with the management of Melsmore Marine Nigeria Limited, located at Choscharis Plaza, 68A Adeola Odeku, Victoria Island, Lagos.

According to a statement on Tuesday signed electronically by Comrade John Kennedy Ikemefuna, Head of Media, MWUN, the move aims to seek mutual understanding between the employer and the union.

Recall that the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria, through its Secretary-General, Comrade Oniha Erazua, recently issued a 21-day ultimatum to Melsmore Marine Ltd over a prolonged issue concerning the company’s failure to provide its employees with the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) and remittance records of the Pension Fund Administrator (PFA), as requested by the union.

However, there is a new development as the union’s leadership is already in positive talks with Melsmore management to find a lasting solution to the dispute that led to the ultimatum. The talks seek mutual understanding and benefits for both organizations, with a primary focus on the welfare of the union members, who are bona fide employees of Melsmore Marine Nigeria Limited.

To achieve this lasting solution, both parties have held meetings, which are still in the developmental stages, resulting in the lifting of the initial ultimatum issued to Melsmore Nigeria Limited.
