ITF Nigeria Women Chapter Marks International Women’s Day With ‘Give To Gain’ Theme In Lagos
....Fasan urges women to lift each other up

The International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF) Nigeria Women Chapter, has joined the rest of their counterpart in the world to mark “Give To Gain’ theme of International Women’s Day in Lagos.
The event honoured women’s socio-economic, cultural, and political achievements, advocating rights at home and work.
The Chairperson of ITF Nigeria Women Chapter, Comrade Funmi Fasan who celebrated International Women’s Day in Lagos on Wednesday, made a passionate appeal for women to lift themselves up at any given time and opportunity
Fasan called for recognition of 21st-century women’s expanding roles, noting rising female education, professional excellence, and financial leadership. Citing a November 2024 report, she revealed that 22% of Nigerian households are now headed by women as breadwinners.
Fasan, who is also the Deputy President General of Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria MWUN, urged women to acknowledge their utility as “mothers and support systems” while addressing societal limitations through honest dialogue and collaboration.
She stressed that: “Women across the globe are indispensable, affirming and praising their care, provision, creativity, compassion, and leadership. In the transport sector under ITF, she advocated lifting each other up, championing rights, and fostering growth.

MNIM, emphasized the reciprocal nature of support among women, stating, “Those who water others must also be watered in order to share growth that benefits everyone.”
She highlighted women’s multifaceted roles as trade unionists, wives, mothers, and caregivers, who shoulder responsibilities for children, spouses, siblings, and vulnerable loved ones—extending this “giving” to workplaces and the nation.
Araga underscored women’s vital contributions to the transport sector, which she described as essential to global economic activity: “Without transportation, human existence will not thrive, and the economy of the world will grind to a halt.”
Araga declared: “Every woman carries a light that inspires generations.” She pushed for more opportunities in education, empowerment, safety, justice against gender violence, child protection, and healthcare, insisting that collective gains strengthen families, societies, and economies. “Women are builders of homes, leaders of change, and nurturers of dreams.”
Araga closed with a call for integrity, unity, and love: “Live and be proud of your identity.
