CILT Nigeria Seeks Railway Corporation Support To Revamp Secretariat

The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) Nigeria, has solicited support from management of the Nigerian Railways Corporation (NRC) to intervene and resolve issues bothering on the institute secretariat at the railway complex, Ebute Metta Lagos.

It was gathered that some consultants and third party outfits of the NRC had written letters for the institute to make payment of about N6 million as part of measures to maintain the facility.

Chairman of CILT Nigeria, Lagos Branch, Mallam Bashir Ambi who led executives of the institute to the Managing Director, Nigerian Railways Corporation (NRC), Mr. Fidet Okhira on a working visit on Monday, lamented that letters have been written by agents and solicitors of the corporation on the need to make payment in a bid to retain the facility.

Ambi who described the action as a major concern for the institute, called on the MD of NRC to intervene and proffer a lasting solutions for CILT Nigeria to maintain and retain the secretariat.

Highlighting the challenges before the NRC boss, the CILT boss further appealed to management of the railway corporation to also assist with the renovation of the secretariat adding that NRC is a major player in CILT activities.

Ambi who is an Assistant Director , Nigerian Shippers’ Council expressed optimism that management of NRC would intervene abruptly to addressing challenges affecting the secretariat , calling on the Chief Executive Officer to graciously rescue the facility from any form of challenges.

He also described the Okhira administration as game changer in terms of technological advancement adding that the innovation in rail mode of transportation under his watch has brought comfort and convenience to passengers.

“We will like you to help us by instructing the barristers to stop writing the institute because we have no money and we have no where to go.

“We also request for management of NRC to assist CILT Lagos Branch by renovating out office within the premises of the corporation .

“We are optimistic that you will grant our request as a mentor to some of us ”’,Ambi added .

Responding, the NRC boss expressed shock over the letters written to CILT by yet to be identified agents and lawyers, which according to him, is unaware of any correspondence.

Okhira further assured the executives of the CILT of his prompt response on the matter , while pledging to support the institute in its programmes .
