WASTE MANAGEMENT: Expert Urges Sanwo Olu To Retain Visionscape

An environmentalist, Mr.  Okikiola Ojo has called on the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo Olu and the Commissioner for Water Resources and Environment, Mr. Tunji Bello to retain waste management operator, Visionscape Limited as part of reforms in addressing issues affecting waste disposal in the megacity.

 

Ojo who is the Chief Executive Officer, Dyno Clean Limited in an exclusive chat with DAILY FOCUS NEWS ONLINE on Sunday, in Lagos, maintained that with the modern equipment in possession of Visionscape, and other top private contractors in the waste disposal sub sector in the state, would bring about dirt and filthy free environment of the state.

 

Giving a vivid background on the need to engage the foremost waste operator, the environmentalist reiterated that with the brand new vehicles and other infrastructure in possession of  Visionscape can access most of deplorable nooks and crannies in some parts of Lagos state , adding that the Sanwo Olu administration has what it takes to clear the littered environment.

Ojo reiterated that the waste management company should be deployed to places like Alimosho, Ajeromi /Ifeolodun, Agege and Oshodi where the population is quite high.

 

He said: “Visionscape has become a liability of Lagos State because there is no way the owner of the company will be at lost if the government should decide to sack them. But it is better for this current government to engage them as contractors to operate.

 

The waste management expert added that ” Their vehicles are quite sound ,they have high calibre personalities as managers who can manage their operations but am afraid of the challenges they might encounter which has to do with the feeder roads.

Speaking further the expert said: “My advice to the governor and commissioner on environment of Lagos state is to get a perfect reform in line with environmental issues.

 

“If the LAWMA and highway managers are well reformed, with a robust financial base then I think we will get out of the mess we found ourselves.

 

Ojo frowned at the current state of vehicles in possession of some of the existing contractors handling waste management in the state, nothing that the operators spend days to discharge their waste due to the condition of the vehicles.

He opined that a large number of vehicles disposing waste of obsolete.

 

He also urged the government to engage professional environmentalists in tackling most waste management pointing out that “waste is wealth.”

 

The Dyno Clean boss, while reacting on the recent appointment of Mr. Tunji Bello as the Commissioner of Environment, stressed that with the calibre of persons in the current administration, would further help to sanitise the megacity.

 

Asked about the need to revamp the monthly state sanitation, he opined that cleaning of one’s environment should be a personal affair that must be sustained by all and sundry.
