Akpabio – How Udom Threw My Properties Out

Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio, Former Governor of Akwa Ibom State has narrated how Governor UDOM Emmanuel threw his properties out of the Government Guest house when he was stranded.

 

In an interaction with Newsmen, Akpabio said he has no account nor property domiciled abroad, adding that when he was Governor, he served the people with passion.

 

Akpabio said that when he left office he lived in the Akwa Ibom State’s Government Guest House because he had no place to stay.

 

The Minister-designate stated that he abandoned his house he was building in Shelter Afrique, Uyo, when he could not service the loan he collected from then Skye Bank.

 

Narrating further, Akpabio said Udom allegedly acting on the instructions of his [Udom] associates threw him out of the Guest House without any notice.

 

Akpabio said, “I’m the only former governor in this country who left office without any trace to foreign account. I’m the only former governor who does not own any property abroad.

 

“When I was a governor, whenever I have my allowances, I will walk from Plaza to Government House with many people following me. When we finally get to Government House, everyone will go inside and we close the gate.

 

“Everyone will be given between five to ten thousand naira before going out of the gate, depending on the crowd. Was it not so? I made a vow that I was going to serve the people of the state and I did.

 

“When I left Government House, I was staying at the Guest House in Government House. So one day, some people went and convinced Udom Emmanuel to send me away. He just came and threw my things away. I was so shocked.

 

“I mean he threw my things outside. Because I never had any house to stay. The one I built at Shelter Afrique, I collected loan from Sky bank to build it. When I was the governor, I was paying Sky bank with an interest of twenty four percent.

 

“But when I left Government House, they increased it to forty two percent. I couldn’t service the loan anymore, so I stopped. That’s why you see that building abandoned. It’s not because of any investigation or what.

 

“This place at Ewet Housing that I’m staying, I bought it since 2002 and was abandoned with overgrown grasses. I just came to renovate it and stay even though it’s not that big.

 

“When I was stranded without a house to stay, one of the boys I raised was so happy and he wanted to rent his house to me. He said that at least, he was going to by my landlord. It was so shameful, that’s why I had to come and renovate this place and I am so happy that at least, I won’t be bothering myself in paying hotel bills. I sleep on one bed and I’m so happy.”

 

Akpabio revealed how Mr Emmanuel Nicholas, Governor Udom Emmanuel’s former Assistant on Research and Documentation allegedly hurled invectives at him barely three months after leaving office.
