Mrs Buhari, Ezekwesili, Dabiri Caution Police Over Invitation Of Timi Dakolo

Nigerian First Lady Aisha Buhari and  the Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Abike Dabiri Erewa have cautioned the Nigerian Police Force over invitation of singer Timi and Busola Dakolo.

 

Also , a former Minister of Education, Dr Oby Ezekwesili, on Sunday reacted to the invitation letters served on Bisola and Timi Dakolo.

The trio  reaction  followed an alert by Timi Dakolo whose wife, Busola had accused the Senior Pastor of Commonwealth of Zion, COZA, Biodun Fatoyinbo of rape, where he claimed that some strange men attempted to invade his residence with guns on Saturday

 

Ezekwesili writing on her Twitter Page queried why the police operation ‘appeared extremely intimidating.’

She wrote, “Just catching up on this & seeing those pictures of the Dakolo’s report of your ‘invitation’ makes this your Statement quite curious @PoliceNG . Did not seem your officers executed a “regular police invitation”.

But reacting, the Police Spokesman, Frank Mba, in a statement Saturday night, said the letter was sequel to an ongoing police investigation involving Busola Dakolo, COZA founder, Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo and others.

 

He explained that the invite was not synonymous with a Warrant of Arrest, and must not be misconstrued to be one.

“Rather, it is a polite investigative tool used in eliciting information voluntarily from parties to aid police investigations”, Mba noted.

Earlier, Mrs. Buhari while reacting to the claim tweeted “ATTENTION: INSPECTOR GENERAL OF POLICE #SayNoToRape #JusticeForRapeVictims #SayNoToIntimidation”

 

However, the police said it has only invited Timi Dakolo and his wife Busola as part of an “investigation of a criminal conspiracy, falsehood, mischief, and threat to life”.

 

Copies of two letters shared by Timi Dakolo on his Instagram page said they are to report at the police station on Wednesday, July 23.

 

Similarly,the Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, tweeted;

 

Abike Dabiri-Erewa in her reaction to the alleged invasion of Timi Dakolo’s house by armed policemen yesterday, July 20, 2019, supported First Lady Aisha Buhari’s tweet which warned the Nigerian police against intimidating the Dakolos.

Backing the First Lady’s tweet on the incident, Abike Dabiri-Erewa described it as a tipping point and further alleged that it is one of the many reasons rape victims keep quiet.

 

The Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, tweeted;

 

 Fully supported. #SayNotoRape. We hope not true that Police intimidating the Dakolo’s. I believe in you @PoliceNG . Pls don’t let us down. One of the reasons victims of Rape keep quiet. This is the tipping point !!Not anymore. Thank you @aishambuhari for your leadership in this.
