Parts Central Ltd To Lead NIWA-Supported Inland Waterways Clean‑Up
Parts Central Limited has been appointed to provide strategic oversight and implementation support for a major inland waterways clean-up initiative backed by the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA).
Launched under the immediate past NIWA Managing Director, Asiwaju Bola Oyebamiji, the programme seeks to restore Nigeria’s waterways, boost navigational safety, and unlock economic opportunities within the country’s blue economy.
According to a statement, on Sunday, the project targets chronic pollution problems—illegal dumping, waste accumulation, oil spills and other forms of environmental degradation—through a systematic, sustainable approach.
The teams will identify key pollution sources, coordinate large-scale waste removal, and promote waste‑to‑wealth solutions designed to create jobs for riverside communities.
Beyond environmental recovery, the initiative will remove navigational obstacles to improve vessel movement, support aquatic resource conservation, and strengthen the fisheries value chain.
It aligns with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to develop the marine and blue economy sectors and make Nigeria’s waterways more attractive to local and foreign investment.
Stakeholders expect cleaner waterways to spur commerce, boost tourism, and unlock untapped economic potential along Nigeria’s riverine corridors.
Speaking on the rollout, Parts Central Managing Director Henry Olaoluwa Onifade said the programme would be professionally executed to deliver lasting, measurable results.
He emphasized transparency, sustainability, and the need for collaboration, calling on government agencies, private operators, host communities and environmental groups to support the initiative.
Onifade expressed confidence that sustained collective effort will soon deliver cleaner, safer and more productive inland waterways—and set a new standard for waterway management in Nigeria.
