The shipper urged organisers to always involve policymakers and lawmakers in future Nigerian Economic Growth Forum (NEGF) events so that recommendations can be translated into law and implemented.

Lawal praised the role foreign investors have played in technology transfer and industrial development but warned that strategic sectors ; notably maritime operations must have clear rules that guarantee meaningful indigenous participation and create jobs for Nigerians.

The maritime pundit urged the federal and state governments to protect local interests as the country modernizes its port and logistics infrastructure.

Highlighting persistent barriers at the nation’s ports, Lawal decried bureaucratic bottlenecks, extortion and excessive charges that stifle exports, raise the cost of doing business and limit employment opportunities for Nigerians.

He called for reforms that simplify procedures, clamp down on illicit levies and make the ports system more transparent and competitive.

The All Round Cargo CEO argued that sustained economic growth and homegrown innovation require deliberate policies to support Nigerian enterprises: improved access to finance, fewer regulatory hurdles and a business environment that empowers local private sector players.

A high point of the Lagos event was the presentation of NEGF Ambassador/Special Recognition awards to deserving Nigerians, an honour which acknowledged Lawal’s contributions to the maritime and logistics sector.
