Mrs. Rollens Macfoy, Managing Director and CEO of the frontline manning agent, told DAILYFOCUS NIGERIA that she is pleased with the roles played by seafarers and that their contributions are rightly being recognised.

According to her, the theme for World Seafarers’ Day 2026 is timely as the world is experiencing widespread hardship.
She said the venue will be announced ahead of the June 25 celebration.

Macfoy, the immediate past President of the Women in Maritime Association (WIMA), Nigeria, said: “Usually it is our honour to celebrate our seafarers, speak with them, advise them about their strengths and weaknesses, and encourage them to improve where needed.

“We also give gifts based on their performance. We will invite officials from NIMASA and other relevant maritime stakeholders to join us in celebrating the seafarers.”

Macfoy described seafarers as the heartbeat of the nation but lamented that their contributions are not visible to the ordinary person, hence the need to celebrate them.

Speaking on the Theme for the 2026 International Maritime Organization (IMO) Day of the Seafarer (celebrated on June 25) is “Carrying world trade. Carrying the risks”, the maritime pundit pointed out that “They risk their lives from one port to another. Vessels are endangered at sea and few people understand what they go through. Industrialists and entrepreneurs do not know all the dangers they face.

“I am passionate about seafarers, which is why we will celebrate them this year. Although no final arrangements are yet in place, we will celebrate them in our own way,” Macfoy reiterated.
