Bayelsa Host Community Laments Over Crime Surge , Poor Infrastructure

Residents of Yenagoa-Ovom community in Bayelsa State are raising alarms over relentless insecurity and dilapidated infrastructure plaguing their area.

They lament severe challenges from crumbling roads and buildings alongside rising crime, which they link to a population boom since the state’s creation in 1999.

Despite hosting vital government sites like the Bayelsa State Government House and various parastatals, the community feels utterly neglected by authorities.

Paramount Ruler Chief Deme Izibevie and compound Chief Deme Tywhyte voiced deep frustration over insecurity and government inaction on infrastructure decay.

The community’s Youth President and women leader pointed to youth unemployment as a key driver of the crises, amid other hardships.

Without swift intervention from the Bayelsa State Government, the few remaining residents warn they will be forced to flee due to the worsening infrastructure and safety threats.
