In a bid to address rising insecurity and enhance connectivity, lawmaker representing Ovia Federal Constituency, Hon. Omosede Igbinedion moved a motion on the floor of the House of Representatives, urging the Federal Government to prioritize the Benin-Lagos Express Railway under the national transport masterplan.

The motion calls on the Federal Ministry of Transportation and the Nigerian Railway Corporation to fast-track development of the railway corridor.

The motion underscores the corridor’s role as one of Nigeria’s most critical economic lifelines amid ongoing challenges.

This vital route links Nigeria’s commercial powerhouse, Lagos, with Benin City and intervening communities, including Ovia Federal Constituency represented by Igbinedion.Igbinedion highlighted the escalating security threats along the Benin-Lagos Expressway through Ovia, which have instilled fear among commuters, traders, students, farmers, and families.

“Many people now travel with fear, while others have reduced their movements, affecting livelihoods and economic activities,” she noted.

A modern railway, she argued, would offer a safer, faster, and more reliable alternative, easing road congestion, boosting trade, improving supply chains, and strengthening regional links.

“Beyond transport, the project could incorporate surveillance systems, railway police, and secured terminals to safeguard lives and goods.”

“As the representative of the good people of Ovia Federal Constituency, I remain committed to advocating for infrastructure and policies that protect our people, promote economic growth, and strengthen national development,” Igbinedion affirmed.
