Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has praised education as a cornerstone of societal change, spotlighting Midwestern Oil and Gas Company Limited’s massive push in youth empowerment through scholarships and training.

During a courtesy visit by the company’s Managing Director, Mrs. Elozino Olaniyi, and her team at Government House, Asaba, the Governor lauded their commitment.

Midwestern has awarded scholarships to 298 students across Nigeria this year alone, backed by over $2 million in investments.

These cover secondary and tertiary education, benefiting youth from Delta State and other host communities—some now studying in the United States and Latvia.

Oborevwori noted, “Investing in students today secures the future of our state tomorrow,” while also recognizing the firm’s safety milestone of over seven million man-hours without a Lost Time Injury, alongside its environmental stewardship.

Mrs. Olaniyi emphasized that the company’s oil and gas operations prioritize values and community impact beyond profits, with a sharpened focus on education and capacity building since her tenure began.

The Governor reaffirmed his administration’s support for such private-sector partnerships, urging deeper involvement in renewables, infrastructure, and youth jobs to foster peace and growth.
