FESTIVE SEASON: LASWA ,NIWA Strengthen Joint Patrol For Passengers Safety 

The Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) and the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) have launched a joint safety and security campaign to protect passengers on Lagos waterways during the busy December festive season.

In a joint statement on Monday, disclosed that as travel ramps up across waterways, the two agencies will intensify coordinated patrols involving Marine Police and local safety volunteers, especially during peak hours and at night.

The statement noted that safety checks on all commercial passenger vessels will be increased, with random inspections to ensure compliance with licensing, security, and equipment standards.

It stressed that real-time weather and water condition monitoring will guide safety advisories and route adjustments as necessary.

” A strict zero-alcohol policy will also be enforced—intoxicated passengers or crew will be denied boarding to safeguard everyone.

“Passengers are urged to wear life jackets, follow safety instructions, avoid overcrowding boats, and report unsafe activities. Operators must hold valid licenses, maintain complete passenger records, display emergency contacts clearly, and ensure well-trained crews.

“Both LASWA and NIWA stress that safe travel this festive season requires cooperation from regulators, operators, and passengers alike.
