WORLD DECENT DAY : SSASCFA Advocates Democracy At Work Place To Boost Productivity

The Senior Staff Association of Shipping, Clearing and Forwarding Agencies (SSASCFA), led by its President General, Comrade Harrison Ugochukwu Asonye, on Friday, 10 October 2025 commemorated with maritime stakeholders and employers of labour on the World Decent Work 2025 with a strong commitment to the theme “For Democracy to Deliver Decent Work.”

On this significant occasion, SSASCFA President General reaffirmed the essential link between democracy and the right to decent work.

According to him, democracy empowers workers by promoting inclusive participation, protecting labour rights, and ensuring social justices adding that all vital ingredients for decent employment play critical roles in every working employment.

Under Comrade Asonye’s leadership, SSASCFA pledges to advocate for transparent governance, fair labour practices, and policies that uphold the dignity of workers in the shipping, terminal operations and Logistics sectors.

The association, an affiliate of Trade Union Congress Of Nigeria (TUC) leader further called on all stakeholders; government, employers, and workers to strengthen democratic institutions and processes as the foundation for sustainable and decent work opportunities.

He pointed out that “Only through active democracy can equitable labor conditions, safe workplaces, social protections, and fair wages be realized.

“SSASCFA remains steadfast in championing the cause of workers’ welfare, urging continuous collaboration towards a future where democracy truly delivers dignity, equality, and decent work for all. Together, we can build a just and prosperous labor environment that benefits every worker and the nation as a whole:”, he noted.
