FRSC Looses Five Personnel Due To Knockdown In September

Grievously saddened, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has announced that five of its gallant operatives lost their lives in the month of September, 2025 after being knocked down by reckless drivers while on official duties.

In line with this, the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed has directed that all motorists responsible for these tragic incidents be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, to serve as a deterrent against future occurrences.

According to a statement by Olusegun Ogungbemide, Assistant Corps Marshal , Corps Public Education Officer, Federal Road Safety Corps on Tuesday,30 September 2025, these knockdowns happened across the following formations; Ekiti Sector Command, 6th September 2025, 8th September 2025 Ogun Sector Command, Taraba Sector Command, 15th September 2025, Jos By-Pass Unit Command, 19th September 2025, and Obollo Afor Unit Command 24th September 2025.

Their deaths , the statement added are not mere statistics, they represent human lives dedicated fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters, and breadwinners, cut short in the line of duty while safeguarding Nigerian roads.

Gravely disturbed, the Corps Marshal was quoted noting with great concern the increasing hazards faced by FRSC operatives who, beyond being exposed to speeding vehicles, now also contend with kidnapping, violent attacks, and targeted assaults. He stressed that the FRSC will no longer tolerate acts of recklessness that endanger its staff, warning that offenders will be made to face the full weight of the law.

He called on personnel across formations nationwide to exercise more level of alertness and ensure there safety is highly prioritised, noting that they need to be safe and alive to save others.

In line with this, the Corps is intensifying engagements with relevant authorities on the protection of its personnel and installations. This measure, he emphasised, is not intended for aggression but as a safeguard to deter assaults and ensure that officers can perform their duties without fear of attack.

Solemnly, on behalf of the management and staff of the Federal Road Safety Corps, the Corps Marshal commiserates with the families of the deceased officers and salutes their courage and sacrifice. He calls on all Nigerians to honour their memory by respecting traffic laws, showing regard for FRSC operatives on duty, and supporting the Corps in its mandate to end avoidable deaths on the nation’s highways.

Firmly cautioning, the Corps Marshal reaffirms that Disregard for traffic laws and the safety of FRSC personnel will attract serious sanctions and legal consequences going forward.
