Kwankwaso’s Move To Join APC Unaffiliated With NNPP, Says Secretary

 

The National Secretary of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Comrade Ogini Olaposi, has clarified that the plan to join the All Progressive Congress (APC ) is solely by Sen. Rabiu Kwankwaso and his Kwankwasiya movement, not the party.

Comrade Olaposi made the statement on Monday in Lagos.

Kwankwaso, a former Kano State governor and the NNPP’s 2023 presidential candidate, declared on Saturday that he and his supporters are ready to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Kwankwaso warned that his political movement would not allow itself to be used to win elections and then be abandoned afterward.

Reacting to the situation, Olaposi said that with this declaration, Kwankwaso has confirmed that he and his movement are no longer part of the NNPP.

“Our party will now rest from their resistance, especially after they were expelled for anti-party activities.

“The NNPP has nothing against the ruling party, and if at any point ahead of the 2027 general elections we decide to enter into an alliance with APC or any other party, it will be decided by all members.

“For now, we are focused on putting our house in order ahead of nationwide elections, following the crises and litigations that Kwankwaso and his unemployed followers brought to the party.

“Our MoU with the Kwankwasiya movement ended after the 2023 presidential election. The crisis began because, rather than leave peacefully, they began planning to hijack the party. We look forward to seeing them in another party,” he stated.

He further said that Kwankwaso is being overrated unnecessarily and noted that his political value declined after betraying the NNPP, which gave him a platform for his presidential ambition. It is also on record that some key members of the Kwankwasiya movement have since left him to join the APC.

“Nigerians must be careful in negotiating with Kwankwaso and his group under the guise of NNPP.

“All negotiations must be on an individual basis because they remain expelled from the NNPP. Kwankwaso currently has no political base.

The NNPP chieftain also lamented the delay by INEC in uploading the party’s new executive after a court-ordered convention produced the Dr. Agbo Major-led executive,” Comrade Ogini said.
