AIG Maritime Police Command Talks Tough To Clear Miscreants Out Of Ports Corridor

The Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Maritime  Command, Lagos, AIG Olofu Adetutu Rhoda has pledged to tackle the numerous challenges affecting free flow movement of cargoes along the port corridors linking the two seàports in Lagos.

AIG Olofu made the plea recently during  a strategic meeting with the Commissioner of Police, Ports Authority Police, Western Ports Command, Apapa, Lagos CP Lanre Ishola, his management team and other senior police officers of the Maritime Command Headquarters in her office.

According to a statement by ASP Ehinmode Rowland Adewumi, Ag. Police Public Relations Officer, Maritime Police Command, Lagos disclosed in a statement on Friday, that issues discussed at the meeting included modalities to remove the perceived obstacles affecting ease of doing business and  proffering lasting solutions to cases of port congestion and terminal gridlocks.

The AIG, added that emplacement of new policing techniques to curb the activities of miscreants and wharf rats, deployment of adequate Police personnel and cutting-edge tools for visibility policing would play key roles in tackling the bottlenecks.

She stated that her team will clear the port corridors of all illegal checkpoints, hoodlums and other criminal elements hindering the free flow of business within and around the ports and terminals.

However,  AIG Olofu called on the officers to be alive to their responsibilities by carrying out their duties within the ambit of the law, thereby making the ports environment safer for the operators and stakeholders.
