Stakeholders Commend Port Manager TCIPC Over Traffic Disappearance Along Access Road

Management of Tin Can Island Port Complex (TCIPC) Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), has been commended for sustaining the free flowing vehicular movement of cargoes  along the port access road, saying that the last quarter of 2021 was impassable when compared with the current realities on port operations.

 

A cross section of stakeholders comprising importers , transporters , customs brokers and freight forwarders expressed satisfaction of the Port Manager TCIPC NPAMallam Buba Jubril leadership style,  over the current vehicular movement along the access roads.

Though the stakeholders appealed to management of the NPA at TCIPC to look inward and provide a common port users service area  to warehouse operators in a bid to cater for ancillary services and other needs.

They also called on management of NPA TCIPC to replicate the successes recorded along the access road to the port corridor of Apapa Oshodi Expressway noting that at the completion of the highway, cargoes movement outside Lagos State would boost turn around time for ships.

 

Speaking against the backdrop of the sanity at the port complex recently, Mr. Stephen Uzonuoma, a shipper of fairly used vehicles maintained that 2021 experienced port congestion along the port access road but maintained that movement of imports in 2022 is quite encouraging.

 

The car dealer reiterated that despite the lull of importation in time past, there were cases where TCIPC experienced congestion due to the poorly managed traffic situation along the access road.

 

He maintained that the Port Manager , TCIPC NPA who was a former Traffic Manager might be responsible for the change because of his wealth of experience in traffic management.

The importer noted that the last quarter traffic madness has yet to resurface due to effective traffic management at the port.

Similarly,Deputy President , National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF), Ogochukwu Nnadi called on the port authority to assist in the establishment of common users service area in a bid to control human traffic.

Nnadi also attributed the fizzling out of traffic congestion at the port to the lull on importation adding that the last quarter of 2022 witnessed sharp drop due to foreign exchange rate , war in Ukraine and economic hardship

The NAGAFF chieftain said plans are ongoing to engage management of NPA , TCIPC on the need to establish a common user service area for port users in furtherance to control human traffic.

Despite the improvement on traffic along the access road, the Public Relations Officer, Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agent (ANLCA), Onome Joy Monije called on management of the port to look inward and provide space for cleared vehicles within the national axis of the port.

A transport, name withheld commended the port authority for the improved traffic situation at the port.

He maintained that the port access road of TCIPC was a menace to haulage operators between 2020 and 2021 noting that it is obvious , traffic management has improved in the last one year.

He said haulage business has improved due to the free flowing movement of vehicles in and out of the port.

Recall that the Port Manager , Mallam Buba Jubril and the Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Transportation, Sola Giwa visited the Sunrise axis of Apapa Oshodi Expressway on a fact finding mission to end the gridlock faced by commuters and transporters along the port corridor.
