Tambuwal Swears-in New HoS, Re-Engages Predecessor On C’ttee For Agric Cooperative

Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto State Wednesday ,swore-in the new Head of Civil Service (HoS) in the state.

 

On the same occasion, the governor announced the re-engagement of the retired HoS, who he said will now serve as a member of a technical team that will be saddled with the responsibility of replicating an agricultural cooperative model similar to that of Moroccan  COPAG, Cooperative Agricole, which the state has understudied and signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with.

 

Muhammad Bello, Special Adviser Media and Publicity to the Governor stated that  in a statement.

 

 

The new Head of Service, Alhaji Abubakar Muhammad (Mni), was appointed after the retirement of his retired predecessor, Alhaji Sani Garba Shuni.

 

Speaking at the ceremony, Gov. Tambuwal said the appointment of the new Head of Service was based on merit and seniority.

 

He described Alhaji Muhammad as a hardworking, industrous, intelligent person with the energy and capacity to drive the affairs of state Civil Service, which has before the advent of this administration suffered some setbacks.

 

The governor, therefore, appealed to the Civil Servants in the state to give the new administrator maximum cooperation in the state government’s effort to reform the Civil Service.

 

In the same breadth, he urged the new Head of Service to use his intelligence and vast network of experience in moving the affairs of civil service forward.

 

While congratulating him, he urged him to try to make the  state Civil Servants ICT compliant as the world is now going digital.

 

He assured workers in the state of his administration’s commitment to their welfare noting that so far the government has been paying salary, pension and gratuity as at when due.

 

According to him, in furtherance of its reform efforts,  the state government has completed the verification of state civil servants while that of the local government staff is ongoing after which that of teachers in the state will be done.

 

To that effect, th governor said he has directed the atate local government education secretaries to submit the authentic list of their teaching and non teaching staff in their respective local government areas.

 

He said they were also cautioned to forthright while carrying out the assignment, noting that  anyone of them found wanting will be called to account for his wrongdoing.

 

Tambuwal added that the exercise is not to witch-hunt anybody, rather it is to cleanse the Civil Service system for effective service delivery.

 

Turning to the retired Head of Service, the governor appreciated his tenure in office and announced that both him and the person he succeeded, Alhaji Buhari Bello Kware will be part of a technical team to work towards the actualization of the Moroccan cooperative business model.

 

He said the COPAG model is known globally for the establishment and provision of dairy and associate products to its populace within the North African country as well as abroad.

 

He urged civil servants in the state to key venture into private businesses as state government is willing to strengthen it’s promotion of entrepreneurship in the state.

 

 

 

Meanwhile,as part of Sokoto State government commitment to the remediation of the intra-city Mabera Storm Water Management Project (MSWMP), the sum of N1,033,044,900 was paid to the World Bank since 2017.

Gov. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal disclosed this Wednesday when he flagged-off the project in the state capital.

According to him, “I have engaged in series of consultations with the relevant stakeholders to enable the project get to its current level.

“The work might have seemed long in coming but the procedures for the project are very cumbersome, elaborate and time consuming, as they have to conform with international best practices,” Gov. Tambuwal said

The Governor assured that when completed the MSWMP “will be one of the best drainages in the metropolis, which will have capacity to evacuate and channel all the run off from these areas and by God’s grace, the chapter of referring the area as “Tsunami” will be closed.”

Going down memory lane, the governor recalled that “the people of Mabera and environs… have, for quite long time been experiencing the problem of annual flooding,” a situation that has been exploited “to discredit our administration, even though, they are fully aware that the problem was not created by our government.

“It is a commonly known fact that Mabera flooding predates my tenure as Governor. It has been in existence since the beginning of Mabera Area,” the governor said.

“We have over the years shared your pain and predicament on the enormous losses and inconveniences you have been enduring. Let me therefore use this opportunity to applaud your patience during this trial, especially in spite of sustained insightment and provocation before the commencement of this project.

“Those following the issue of Mabera flooding would agree with me that, it has generated so much discussion. And, I wish to express our sincere appreciation for a section of the opinion that was out of genuine interest and concern for the plight of the residents of this area. This indeed, is clear proof that democracy is working in Sokoto State,” he added.

He further added that “while successive past administrations had not succeeded in resolving the matter, we showed commitment and determination to construct first class drainage infrastructure in the area.

“That we are standing here today is a testimony to the fact, that our promises are not mere election gimmick but are made with the full intent of achieving them and consolidating the gains of democracy for our teeming populace,” he assured.

In his remarks, the state Commissioner for Environment, Alhaji Sagir Bafarawa, said the MSWMP after undergoing ‘rigorous scrutiny’
and clearance from the World Bank, will span “18.5 kilometers drainage of drainage capacity that cut across Mabera-Jelani, Mabera-Iddi, Nakasarin-Barebari, Nakasarin-Magaji, Salame and Trade Fair areas” of the Sokoto metropolis.

The project, explained the Commissioner, is intended to amend the “constant flooding of the environment.”
