British Airways, Two Others To Operate Flights In Lagos On Saturday

Sequel to international flights resumption, three airlines are set to operate flights into the Murtala Mohammed International Airport on Saturday.

 

This disclosure was made by the Managing Director of the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria, Capt Rabiu Hamisu Yadudu during an inspection tour by the Lagos State Government to check the readiness of the International Airport on Friday.

 

The FAAN MD said, “We are expecting three airlines tomorrow starting with Middle East Airlines, around 2pm.”

Airport officials however revealed that the remaining two airlines are Delta, and British Airways.

Delta Airlines was said to have cancelled their flights while British Airways are to be expected by 4pm.

The inspection team included the Lagos State Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat, the Commissioner for Transportation of Lagos State, Frederic Oladeinde and the Commissioner of Health, Prof Akin Abayomi amongst others

They were led round the various facilities in the airport by the Regional General Manager South West Airports and Airport Manager of MMIA Victoria Shina-Aba, the FAAN MD alongside other officials.

Speaking during the inspection, the deputy governor said the process was to check FAAN’s readiness for flights.

He said, “The essence is to check the preparedness of our airports for tomorrow’s arrival of international flights. As you are aware we have opened the local airport and we have begun domestic flights.

“We are now starting international flights. The Lagos State Government is checking along with FAAN to see preparedness.

“You can see we entered through the normal entrance gate where we had temperature checks and it is not just one temperature check, it can cover a lot of people.

“It checks your temperature, and if it is higher than the acceptable level, it will flag it and then you will be taken aside.

You can see the mats that identify the two metres distance. The preparedness based on what we have seen today is there. FAAN is ready and our airports are ready.”

Hamzat however tasked the people to follow instructions when they come in.

He added, “the facility is ready, prepared but people must follow instructions.

“When people come in from their flights there will be staff that will direct people on what to do. We must just listen to the officials. If we do that, we are safe.”

The FAAN boss said physically challenged persons should let the airlines know ahead of time about their condition. He noted that FAAN will be contacted by their handlers to make sure there is no challenge for the ticket holder.

He noted that no VIP has intimidated airport officials in the past few weeks

He said, “on the issue of intimidation, so far we have not been receiving any intimidation. All our staff are trained and ready for this task.

“In the event of any intimidation, we have our own protocols, we are working on them. We have no had any challenge with any VIP in the last few weeks.”
