Nwokolo, Fasan Emerge Women Leaders Of ITF Nigeria Chapter

The International Transport Workers Federation (ITF) , Nigeria Women Chapter has elected new executives that will pilot its affairs for the next four years.

At the inauguration held on Tuesday as part of efforts to celebrate International Women’s Day in Lagos and delegates conference , Comrade Victoria Nwokolo of Nigerian Railway Transport Workers emerged the new Chairperson of International Transport Workers Federation (ITF) Women  Chapter ,Comrade Funmi Fasan of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) emerged the Vice chairperson.

Other executive members of the Nigerian women wing of the federation include; Comrade Omotara Esther folakemi, Treasurer; Comrade Adelakun Omolabake, Financial Secretary; Comrade Tonia Obinaju, Secretary.

Speaking shortly after her inauguration, the newly elected chairperson, Comrade Nwokolo stated that the priority of her administration is to continue from where the outgoing chairperson stopped saying the federation’s women wing is poised to touch more lives.

She explained that some members who are financially handicapped and cannot take care of themselves will receive the first attention from the women group.

Her words, “I appreciate my immediate past chair person for how far she has taken us and now that she has handed thr position to me, i wilk do my brst to tesolve some of the issues we have in each uniin.

“I will make sure we come together to solve them and I pray that God gives me ability to take the women farther than our outgoing chairperson had done.

 

“The first thing I will do is the issue of some women that are suffering that do not have money to take care of themselves in the hospital.

“I met two women; one has fibroid for over ten year now and I promised that anytime i have the opportunity to render assistance, i will consider her first through deliberations with my executive members.

“I implore my executive members to work with me to achieve the set goals.

Also speaking, the Vice chairperson, Comrade Funmi Fasan reiterated her resolve to support the new chairperson even as she said that she has always been of assistance to the group through her union.

Explaining how to make their dream a reality, she quipped that the affiliate unions would have to contribute to the success of the group even as she solicited for individual’s contributions.

She maintained that for the federation to reach more vulnerable persons, it has to increase its visits to less privileged homes from once in a year to two times.

She said, “From the inception, I have been giving my support through the union and I want to say that the support will continue. I have always giving my time to ITF for its success.

“We have no other means except through our affiliate unions to source funds. Support has been coming from MWUN and sometimes we go to the extend of sacrificing our personal money and little token we give, goes a long way.

“Our dream is achievable because we dis it for some of our women. Virtually every year we go to one less privileged home or the other, we are used to that and so we will continue.

“Now, instead of going to one less privileged hone every year, we can make it twice so that we can touch more lives.

Speaking earlier, the outgoing chairperson, Comrade Olufunmilayo Onuoha enumerated all the achievements of the group under her watch from 2016bro 2020.

She maintained that within the period, the women attended training programmes organised by the parent body.

In 2017, 2018 and 2019, she said the the women achieved the feat of visiting less privileged homes as well as female correctional facilities.

According to her, ITF London organised a leadership training for the women in 2016, visited orphanage hone in Ogun State and FAAN school on domestic violence against girl child within the period.
