Water Transportation: Akwa Ibom Advances With New Indigenous Cruise Ferry Projects
The Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno is spearheading a transformative move in water transportation by commissioning the construction of two modern cruise ferry boats aimed at boosting inter-state connectivity in the Niger Delta region.
According to a statement, over the weekend this bold initiative responds to growing public demand for reliable, affordable, and efficient water transit, particularly between Akwa Ibom and neighboring states.

The project includes a 24-meter mild steel passenger cruise ferry being built at Naval Shipyard Limited in Port Harcourt, and a 73-seater passenger ferry under construction at Hydro Marine & Boat Service in Apapa, Lagos.
Once in operation, these vessels will service routes such as Calabar-Oron jetty, the Marina in Uruan, and other West African coastal points.
This effort promises to heighten tourism, attract investment, create jobs for local youth, and boost the state’s internally generated revenue—redefining transportation standards under Governor Umo Eno’s leadership.
