The Senator representing Lagos Central Senatorial District , Sen. Wasiu Eshilokun Sanni (WES) on Wednesday 31st July 2024, embarked on an empowerment programme for his constituents .
Senator Eshilokun who also doubles as the Chairman, Senate Committee on Marine Transport distributed items to people in Ikate Eleguishi community, Lekki.
Items distributed include: Deep freezers, generating sets, grinding machines, school bags ,sewing machines, buses and tricycles.
The items in numbers are:100 Grinding Machines – 100 Sewing Machines – 70,
Generators (3.5KVA) -50, Deep freezers – 5 Tricycles and 4000 School Bags
The recipients of the items were shortlisted from across the Lagos Central Senatorial District through a selection committee at each of the 13 LGA and LCDA’s and beneficiaries include artisans, traders, Community Development Councils, the Nigeria Inter-Religious Council, non-indigenes and pupils of primary and secondary schools within the district.
Addressing the gathering, Senator Eshilokun called on the beneficiaries to make good use of the items to create wealth for themselves adding that the commodities must not be sold out for selfish reasons.
He admonished the beneficiaries saying “I want to appeal to all beneficiaries of any of the empowerment items today, to make good use of it very judiciously so as to give you the desired impact on your businesses.
“It is my belief that in the next one year, you all will have good stories to tell on how you have been able to use these tools to develop your enterprises to enviable states.
” I therefore congratulate you for making the list and urge you to continue to support our party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) at all levels, under which flagship I got elected to be your Senator.
The Senator noted that the empowerment programme aimed at enhancing the means of livelihood of the constituents with a view to cushioning the effects of the economic hardship currently being experienced across the globe.
He said “This empowerment programme is therefore a fulfillment of part of my campaign promises of making life easier for you and keeping with the tradition I inherited from my indefatigable predecessor, Senator Chief (Mrs) Oluremi Tinubu CON, the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“It is with that mindset that I was propelled to constantly address your short-term needs through the distribution of food items and other palliatives as well as providing more long-term interventions to support artisans and petty traders amongst us with tools needed to uplift your businesses, and increase your earning capacity on a sustainable basis, in line with Mr President’s desire to boost small and medium scale enterprises in Nigeria.
Senator also presented three brand new buses to three first class monarchs under his constituency.
He pointed out that “The three 16-seater buses were distributed to the Royal Majesties: namely – the Oba of Lagos, the Elegushi of Ikate and the Oniru of Iru Kingdom to enhance their mobility. ”
Apart from these empowerment items, he also assured the constituents of his commitment to facilitating livelihood enhancement programmes and projects to the Lagos Central Senatorial District for the benefit of all .
Senator Eshilokun recalled that at the Town Hall meeting held on Thursday April 18, 2024,” he reported that he was packaging some infrastructural projects for the district, saying ” Solar powered streetlights have been installed and functional at the following roads:
Elegbata Street – Lagos Island; lga-ldunganran Street – Lagos Island ; Glover St – Lagos Island
Simpson Street by Glover down to Olonade, Ebute-Metta, Lagos Mainland; Adebowale Street – Surulere, Baale St, lgbo-Efon, Eti-Osa
Odudu Aleyiwo – Oniru, Eti-Osa ; Ahaji Akanni Azeez, Ikate-Elegushi ; Lekki-Phase I Estate – Eti-Osa LGA and Karimu Opeloyeru Street, Apapa.
Other projects recalled by the lawmaker were- “Road Rehabilitation/Re-Construction: Presently, Sanusi Street in Surulere LGA and Ayigoro Street in Eti-Osa LGA are currently being re-constructed, Provision of Transformers: I have also provided 2nos. Transformers for Ojo Olokun community in Lagos Island and, at Okun-Ajah in Eti-Osa.
On the planned protest on End Bad Government, the lawmaker said “I implore you to reach out to our youth to exercise more patience with the government of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, as he is doing everything to positively change the fortune of our country.
“What he needs now is our unalloyed support and prayers. Meanwhile, let me reiterate, to my Constituents, my conviction is that I shall always be driven by your interests”, Senator Eshilokun added.
The empowerment programme by Senator Eshilokun is the third project embarked on for the year 2024.
