POWER OUTAGE: Aggrieved Women Stage Prayer Session Against Suspected Cable Vandals In Delta State

Aggrieved women in Omosohwofa Street,Okumagba layout in Warri, Delta State on Tuesday , embarked on a prayer session against suspected armoured cable thieves and vandals of their transformer.

The women who came out in mass staged the prayers at the junction of the street as early as 6am.

Speaking on behalf of the women,Mrs. Roseline Ikuesa said they(women and their families)have been in darkness for the past three years.

She said the light was restored recently and they only enjoyed same for two months before the armoured cable to the transformer was allegedly stolen by a suspected thief that they’re yet to identify.

“We don’t know who is who. We don’t know who is doing this. We don’t know the enemy of Omosohwofa street. That’s why we mothers of children, women came out to cry to God that we don’t want to live in darkness again.

“We want to live in light. Let the God of light appear and help us fight thus battle.”

Mrs. Ikuesa said the chairman of the street reported the matter to the Benin Electricity Distribution Company,BEDC and the Police.

Mrs. Ikuesa said residents are contributing six thousand naira each to for the purchase of another armoured cable.

She also said they will hand over any suspect whom they find the stolen cables with to the Police for prosecution.

According to Mrs. Ikuesa, the prayer session is the fifth day of the seven seven days programme stressing that,”It is only for women in Omosohwofa. The men are doing their own.”

Mrs. Ikuesa also appealed to government at all levels to assist the street with the purchase of the armoured cable so as to save them from darkness.

“We need the help of Government to come and help us because we are tired of contributions of money for our street. They should come and fix our road. We don’t have road, we don’t have water. We are suffering.”

The Chairman of Omosohwofa Street, Mr. Ese Jerry Azakaza who corroborated the claims of the women said the armoured cables were stolen and the transformer vandalized.

He said,”Five days running now, we discovered that some of the wires were cut off. In fact, if you look at it, you will know that it is a deliberate act sabotage.Some of the parts that were removed were not up to a yard or a meter.

“Like Mama rightly said, since we don’t have concrete evidence, you cannot hold it on somebody but immediately I sighter it, I had to go to BEDC and offcourse, I wouldn’t want to blame them. I also don’t want to apportion blames because it is neither our faults neither is it their fault but they told us that this is a clear act of vandalism.

” For us, having spent so much time running fuel, I want to believe the average anybody must have spent overtime on generator now unconsciously is N400,000 a month and that’s why these women, mothers are aggrieved knowing that was an act of sabotage, they resorted to prayers.

“In fact, some people even recommended the African juju but because they’re mothers, because they have experience, because they know that sometimes, these things also goes with adverse effects, they don’t use demon to fight demon. So, they opted for prayers. I know it was exclusive for women that’s I didn’t come out.”

Azaka said the residents of the very long street with so much buildings are contributing six thousand naira each to purchase a new armoured cable for the transformer which he confirmed was vandalized.
